About Us
A Home for Grace was founded by Becky LaForest in order to provide affordable housing and community-based services for individuals with I/DD, intellectual and developmental disabilities, to live independently.
After meeting Emmie several years ago while doing clinicals at a nursing home, Becky invited Emmie to come be a part of their family. Emmie decided to adopt them all and she quickly became "Aunt Emmie"!
Emmie's story is like many of her peers. As a young adult, Emmie was admitted to a nursing home after her living situation changed which would have rendered her homeless. Upon being institutionalized she spent several years living in a nursing home among the elderly and was never offered any options or resources for alternative, age-appropriate housing or community-based services. She basically had slipped between the cracks with no one to advocate for her.
After Emmie moved in with Becky, Becky quickly saw firsthand the challenges of finding medical care, community-based services, funding, or affordable housing solutions for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
A Home for Grace was founded to remove the housing crisis obstacle by providing affordable housing solutions and introducing opportunities for those individuals who are able to live independently in their communities.
Thousands of adults with developmental disabilities are able to work and live independently. For these individuals, affordable housing and a supportive living environment offer the right combination of structure and support they need to successfully thrive in their community. Sadly, affordable housing and a lack of funding for community-based services force many of these individuals into institutional living.
Our foundation will provide solutions for affordable housing and resources so that individuals with developmental disabilities can thrive in their homes, communities, and workplaces! #giveussomegrace
